Restoration

We found this lathe locally inside of a homebuilt woodshop. This lathe was used by the original owner to create spindles for the banister.

We were the third owner of the lathe.

Some Modernization Required!

I had a burning desire to do bowl turning, so we changed this from a 1/3 hp 1750rpm single phase motor to a 1 hp 1750 rpm three phase motor (which required an additional VFD).

Also had added some key things:
  • A new tool banjo (from Penn State)
  • A new tool rest (which required a shortened shaft so that it fit this 9 inch lathe
  • A hair tie to keep the dust collection/shop vac hose nearby (vital while sanding)
    • This is where a dust cyclone is really handy as well! Shop Vacs will fill up really fast with sawdust!
